This is Herbert. Herbert is a Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana), North America’s only native marsupial species. He lives in the woods at North Pier, by the Coast Guard station, at Presque Isle State Park. Normally nocturnal, Herbert couldn’t help but venture out in the daytime Saturday looking for yummy gull detritus.

Coming up soon, Herbert returns for more gull yummies! #yay_nature!
Oh, boy…who let Herbert out? Let’s hope he got back home safely!
Herbert is a very adventurous possum. We did see him again at that same location on a subsequent day, so he must get around ok.
