Turkey Of A Saturday

Today’s post features the rest of nature, etc. content from this last Saturday in and around Presque Isle State Park, featuring the first BirdingPI.com sighting of Wild Turkeys this year, near the lagoon boat launch. Yay Wild Turkeys!

Nice to see the turkeys. Wonder where they were keeping themselves? The woodpecker shots with food were really good! And of course, we love to see a bulk carrier. Always good to get more bulk delivered to Erie town!

It’s a good question. When there’s heavy snow on the ground, the turkeys are reliably absent. And when the snow is gone, they’re back. (E.g., for a long period recently in Millcreek Twp, no sightings of Wild Turkey, but once the snow subsided, saw two groups at Presque Isle and even a flock of 40+ further south on the ‘mainland.’) Maybe they hunker down?
