PI Bird Alert

This BirdingPI.com PI Bird AlertTM brought to you by SCAB-Canada, the Swiss Chard Advisory Board of Canada. Grown fresh by our friends across the lake. Swiss Chard from Canada – Taste the North Country!TM

Ok, Whimbrel at Gull Point! Two of these amazing (and uncommon for Presque Isle State Park) birds spotted recently on the outer north beach.

All shots from where the beach trail ends at the “do not enter the bird nesting area” sign @ 800mm. Challenging conditions due to distance and heat shimmer.

Uncropped @ 16×9
Whimbrel II (heavy crop)
Whimbrel III (moderate crop)
Whimbrel IV
Whimbrel V
Whimbrel VI

ID tip: look for the very long, very downturned bill that isn’t long enough to be a Curlew.

Bonus Whimbrel video!

Thanks for the bill info. Curlews spotted at Cambria, CA. Would they fly that far to compare bill sizes???
Please explain the chard picture. Is that some sort of spotted disease on it???

It’s reflections off water droplets. The Canadian chard is pristine and always of the highest quality + disease/pest free + extra nutritious from the mountain air.
